What is a dental implant?

A dental implant consists of three main parts:

  1. Implant post: The dentist surgically places a titanium or ceramic screw-like structure into the jawbone. The post acts as an artificial tooth root and fuses with the bone through a process called osseointegration. The post provides a stable foundation for the replacement tooth.
  2. Abutment: This is a connector placed on top of the implant post. It holds and supports the replacement tooth (crown).
  3. Crown: The visible part of the tooth, which is custom-made to match the shape, size, and color of your natural teeth.

Dental Implants vs Dentures

Many patients need help deciding between traditional dentures and full-mouth implants due to the differences in function, maintenance, and cost. Our comprehensive guide helps you navigate these options, providing clear insights into each solution so you can make an informed decision that best suits your needs and lifestyle.

Tooth Replacement Options

Financing Your Dental Implants

The dental implant procedure can be expensive. However, several options are available to help manage the cost.
Dental insurance may cover part of the procedure, particularly the crown, though implants are often considered a cosmetic treatment and not fully covered. Check with your insurance provider about your coverage.

Some of our patients use health savings accounts (HSAs) or flexible spending accounts (FSAs), which allow pre-tax dollars to be used for medical expenses, including dental implants.

Third-party financing options, including CareCredit® and Proceed Finance, provide credit lines specifically for healthcare treatments. These lines often have low or no interest if paid within a certain timeframe.

Eligibility for Dental Implants

Eligibility for dental implants depends on sufficient jawbone density to support the implant, healthy gums free of disease, and good overall health. Age is also a factor, as implants are usually not recommended for those under 18 due to ongoing jaw development. Commitment to good oral hygiene and regular dental care is essential for long-term implant success.
